Rob LoBreglio

Rob LoBreglio is the co-founder, President, and Brewmaster of Great Dane Brewing.

He began brewing in 1989, in the early days of American craft beer, and graduated from the world-renowned Siebel Institute of Technology.

In 1994 he co-founded Great Dane Brewing in Madison, Wisconsin. Over more than 30 years he has brewed more than 7,000 batches across more than 200 beer styles, building Great Dane into one of Wisconsin’s leading craft breweries.

In 2012 he was named Brewpub Brewmaster of the Year at the Great American Beer Festival, one of the largest beer competitions in the United States. He has also helped launch more than 15 breweries in the United States and Russia, and hosted “Craft Beer in Japan,” a documentary introducing Japan’s craft beer culture.

Over three decades, Rob has shaped Great Dane around a simple philosophy: brew great beer without compromise, create a place where people feel welcome, and build strong connections with the local community.

Great Dane’s expansion into Japan grew out of Rob’s longstanding love for the country and his desire to bring the spirit of Wisconsin craft beer here. Rather than overseeing the project from the United States, he committed himself personally to its success, buying a home in Akiu and relocating to Japan for the brewery’s opening.

Today, Rob continues to guide Great Dane as its founder and brewmaster, bringing more than 30 years of brewing experience to the team while connecting Great Dane’s Wisconsin roots with its new home in Sendai.
