Phil Dawson worked in sports media in Madison, Wisconsin, with credits including ESPN, FOX Sports, Turner Sports, and the University of Wisconsin.
On many visits to Japan with his Japanese wife, he fell in love with Japanese craft beer culture and began studying its history, market, and deep local roots. Over time he built a wide network of brewers and industry figures across the country.
He completed the Craft Brewing and Fermentation Science program at Madison College.
Phil now lives in Sendai, Miyagi with his wife and two children. At Great Dane Brewing he oversees management, brand strategy, sales, and production, and also brews alongside Rob LoBreglio. He leads efforts to expand distribution and strengthen community partnerships, driving Great Dane Brewing’s long-term growth and brand.
